About Me

I am a native New Englander with my roots in Southern Maine.  I grew up in the seacoast of New Hampshire, enjoying the ocean, the changing seasons, and hiking in the White Mountains. Growing up, my family’s passion for travel exposed me to diverse perspectives, values, and ways of thinking.  After moving to Maine in high school, I ventured out to the “other” Portland for college, matriculating at Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Oregon.  My love of New England drove me back east to Boston, where I studied at Boston University and received my Master's in Social Work.  Soon after this, I moved back to Maine and set firm roots in Portland.

My Philosophy

I believe that challenges and struggles will inevitably happen in life. I view them as opportunities to grow and develop as a person and am passionate about helping those I work with to meet their specific challenges head on.  I have worked with a diverse range of individuals and families with mental health issues and see people as unique products of their backgrounds and environment. I am passionate about helping my clients learn to manage internal and external barriers effectively and regain a sense of wellness and purpose. Motivation is crucial in treatment, but I believe that successful therapy starts with a good relationship between the therapist and the client.  Whether I am working with a child, a family or an adult, I begin treatment with relationship building and getting to know each other.

I specialize in treating anxiety and depressive disorders using a mindfulness based approach and work with individuals with a diverse range of symptoms. I utilize components of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy to meet the specific needs of the clients I work with.

I work with individuals as well as families and consider treatment a collaborative process. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me to set up a time to come in! I look forward to it!

Training and Experience

My clinical training and professional experiences have occurred in many different settings, including acute residential treatment at McLean Hospital in Belmont, MA, inpatient psychiatric treatment at Walden Behavioral Care in Waltham, MA, student health at Boston University, home and community treatment throughout Southern Maine and outpatient therapy in Brunswick, ME.  Most recently, I have been a clinical manager at Maine Behavioral Healthcare and decided to leave the hustle and bustle of a large corporation for the freedom to focus on my passion for working with individuals and families to improve their well-being and satisfaction with their lives.
