About Me

I specialize in helping couples and families with relationship issues using Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I am devoted to creating an experience focused on leaving you feeling closer, better understood, valued, and loved.

I enjoy working with couples in every stage of relationships, from premarital counseling to those who have been married for over 40 years. As a licensed mental health therapist with a doctorate in clinical social work, I have studied, researched, and practiced a wide range of effective therapeutic interventions (EMDR, TF- CBT, IFS). I practice from a humanistic perspective utilizing a holistic and integrated mind-body approach enhanced by adopting an attachment lens. I have extensive experience offering trauma-informed psychotherapy and have been practicing in Maine for over 25 years.

In addition to my clinical work, my background includes teaching graduate students, developing and managing multidisciplinary therapeutic outpatient and home-based programs, and providing clinical supervision to licensed psychotherapists.

I truly love what I do for work, and I am forever humbled by the courage displayed by my clients in their unique quest for joy and connection. I am blessed to belong to a very supportive community of like-minded colleagues at Touchstone Associates.

What is Emotionally Focused Therapy?

Emotionally Focused Therapy, or EFT, is a collaborative model based on adult attachment theory, with the premise that we all need to know that we matter to our loved ones. EFT is a short-term, well-researched approach based on the neurobiology of attachment. It’s designed to help couples understand and respond more effectively to each other.

As Dr. Sue Johnson, the developer of EFT so eloquently states  “We are born to need each other. The human brain is wired for close connection with a few irreplaceable others. Accepting your need for this special kind of emotional connection is not a sign of weakness, but maturity and strength.”
